Most Popular Breed of Dog
Currently, across both the United States and the United Kingdom, the Labrador Retriever is decisively the most popular breed of dog. While the opinions of dog owners may be bias to their own particular type of dog, numbers don't lie. As of 2006, in the American Kennel Club the Labrador Retriever had almost 75,000 more registrations than the second place, Yorkshire Terrier and 25,000 more registrations than the English Cocker Spaniel, which is second in the UK Kennel Club. For 20 years the Labrador Retriever has been the most popular dog breed and it does not appear that it will be surpassed any time soon.
The Labrador Retrievers' popularity may be attributed to its great standing as both a family pet and successful show dog. Labradors are characterized by their beautiful double coats, variety of colors and love for the water. They are very energetic dogs that love to play and work hard.
In addition, Labrador Retrievers are warm, loyal and playful. They have also been noted as having one of the most enjoyable temperaments of any domesticated animal. They are also known as one of the most eager to please animals, which is always a positive trait in the eyes of an individual looking for a pet. Labrador Retreivers love human leadership because they love the feeling of being part of the family, thus they are known as great family pets. They are very easy to train so you can allow your kids to help with the training process. They are great dogs for your kids to help train because they are known to be patient dogs and they love to be around children. They tend to be very calm and are not easily upset by unusual things or occurrences. All of these great attributes, in addition to the fact that Labrador Retrievers are some of the most widely used service animals, makes for a dog deserving of the title of most popular dog breed.
