Puppy Bones
There are numerous types of treats that we as owners can provide for our puppies. Some of these treats may be comfortable such as a bed, stylish as in a new puppy jacket, or perhaps savory such as treats or bones. The truth of the matter is that puppies love treats, and what better way is there to treat your puppy than with something that is healthy for their teeth and overall health like that of a bone. Bones are a great way to ensure that your puppy stays healthy, happy, and eliminates the possibility of that ever so dreadful doggy breath. However, with all puppies, certain precautionary measures must be taken into account. Things such as age, breed, and size of teeth are all very important characteristics to consider. The age of the puppy is extremely important, as puppies less than 3 months old should be limited if not completely held back from bones, as they pose potential threat to their stomach lining and digestive system.
The breed of a puppy and its teeth somewhat are interwoven, as it is obvious that smaller puppies generally have smaller teeth, and puppies who are bigger breeds have larger teeth. Therefore you would not buy an entire 6 pound bone for your Pomeranian to gnaw on.
As with all bones for puppies and dogs, there are certain bones that are good for them and some that should be avoided as they can cause splinters and other injuries or even internal damage. Therefore, when considering what bones to buy, you as an owner should have some general knowledge about the various types of bones out there. There are hundreds of brands, and several types, but some of the most popular are bully sticks, flossies, and even just raw animal bones. These three types of bones are generally the most preferred as they do not pose any threat. However, what most dog trainers and professional breeders usually recommend is raw animal bones, as the anatomy of dogs is actually built to withstand raw foods and bones, and furthermore is a great way to clean their teeth and gums. On the opposite spectrum of things, cooked bones should be avoided at all costs! Anything that you cook in your kitchen that has a bone is extremely dangerous, as they can give your puppies splinters or even damage their internal organs. Overall, bones are a great way to keep your puppy's breath and health at a top notch level to ensure that your puppy lives a long and healthy life while thanking you for some tasty treats!
