Rescuing a Puppy
Prospective puppy owners are presented with many more options for finding a puppy than they sometimes realize. It is not uncommon for a future puppy owner to put in a vast amount of time and resources into finding their perfect puppy. This may include trying to find a breeder that matches their desired puppy type, waiting for the next litter of puppies and spending upwards of $500 purchasing one of them. While this may be necessary, if you are attempting to raise an award winning show dog, for the average family, this is not the most economically feasible option. In any given area, there are hundreds of puppies that are waiting and hoping to be adopted by a loving family. Data shows that four million dogs are put to sleep each year, because homes are not found for them. The number of puppies in this figure drastically increases around the holiday season, when it is discovered by many that they cannot handle the responsibilities of raising a young puppy given to them as a gift. If you or your family is capable of raising a puppy and know that you are up to the challenge, you should rescue a puppy.
The process of rescuing a puppy is not difficult.
Many puppy rescuing groups and shelters are responsible for rescuing hundreds of puppies from extreme situations and abandonment. Going to a local shelter or inquiring into some of the puppies rescued by a local organization will expose you to dozens of puppy choices. Seeing your new puppy in person allows you the chance to fall in love with a type of puppy that you had not even had in mind. A shelter often provides tests however, to help you find the best puppy for your lifestyle, which also helps the puppies from ending up back in a shelter in a few weeks time. Once you have been through this process and it goes without any problems, you can have a new puppy that you are ready to take home.
While it's easy to rescue a puppy, you have to be willing to do the work. A puppy can be your best friend and companion for many years, but it's not without a lot of work, care and attention from your end. Puppy rescuing is a way to have all the benefits of a new member of the family, with the added bonus of saving a life and not to mention, saving a great deal of money.
